Topweight Newport has drawn kindly in barrier one for this Friday’s $400,000 Group Two BMW Perth Cup (2400m).

The Paul Perry trained galloper will have the services of recently married jockey Brad Rawiller in the saddle.

Six-year-old Lord Ransom showed big potential for Durrant when he won the Bunbury and Pinjarra cups in March, 2008. The gelding’s owners Bob and Sandra Peters transferred him to Victoria.The powerful chestnut could not have been more impressive when he stormed home from 10th near the home turn and convincingly won last Saturday week’s $250,000 weight-for-age Cox Stakes (2100m).

Lords Ransom soared to prominence in Caulfield and Melbourne cups markets after a fast-finishing third at Moonee Valley in his Victorian debut. But setbacks followed and Lords Ransom returned to Durrant’s stable after failing at Caulfield early this year.
He bounced back to winning form in the Cox Stakes at his third start after resuming with Durrant.

The Peters family have won Perth Cups with Field Officer (1993) and Crown Prosecutor (2005). Durrant has booked Alan Kennedy to ride Lords Ransom in Friday’s big race and the gelding drew barrier two. Big support is expected for Kalgoorlie Cup winner Gondorff, who drops to 52.5kg after running an impressive third with 58kg in last Saturday’s A T A Handicap (2200m).

RACE 3 N0. 3 TOTTERIDGE GREEN

Talented two-year-old TOTTERIDGE GREEN, to contest Friday’s $50,000 BMW Lifestyle Plate (1100m) at Ascot, has revealed the ability to be a leading contender for next year’s rich Perth juvenile races. Totteridge Green can be expected to improve considerably on the second he ran when making his debut over 1000m at Ascot last Saturday week. The bay is likely to be a candidate for the $500,000 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) at Ascot on April 17 and the $200,000 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Belmont Park on May 1. Totteridge Green is by deceased sire Pearl Of Love, whose progeny are showing a lot of promise.

RACE 5  NO 2 INARTICULATE

Bargain-priced galloper INARTICULATE can boost his stake-earnings to more than $300,000 by winning Friday’s $50,000 Auto Classic Handicap (1800m). The six-year-old gelding, bought for less than $1000 when he was a youngster, has won 10 races and run five places in a 22-start career. He won over 1400m at Ascot on November 21, then finished second when he had difficulty getting a clear run on December 5. Inarticulate exhibited his class in a win over 1600m with 56.5kg last Saturday week and he should not be anchored by an extra 2kg on Friday.

RACE 7  NO 7 MEKONG MISS

Tough five-year-old MEKONG MISS is likely to be solidly supported at Ascot on Friday, despite facing a class rise when she contests the $50,000 Moet And Chandon Handicap (1400m). The David Harrison-trained mare has won at three of four starts since a spell and she scored a stylish victory in last Saturday week’s Country Challenge Final (1500m) at Ascot. Mekong Miss looks well placed with 54kg in Friday’s handicap and she has drawn favourably at barrier six. Harrison has established an imposing strike rate of winners on city and provincial tracks in recent seasons. The trainer’s winning percentage lifted considerably after he shifted to a private training complex at Serpentine.
